A cat in New York named Scarlet became a headline story around the world when she went into a burning building five times to save her kittens.Although her face and paws were badly burned, she didn`t stop until she had saved all her kittens.Scarlet`s eyes were so burned that she could not see,but when people put her in a box with her kittens, she touched each kitten with her nose,as if she was counting them. In the U.K.,a cow named Blackie and her baby were sold to different places at an auction.Blackie broke out of her stall to look for her baby. The next morning, she was found at another farm sven miles away, feeding her baby milk. When baby dolphins are cought in nets, thier mothers will stay with them and sing to them to calm them down.If a baby dolphin dies, all the dolphins in the group will gather around the sad mother to protect her while she stays withg her dead baby. A kind of bird, called the killdeer, fakes broken wings when her baby are being attacked so that the enemy will attack her instead of her babies.Elephant mothers carry their babies inside them for almost two years;they also raise and teach young elephants together as one big family.Even animals as scary as alligators can be loving mothers. When their eggs hatch, they use big, powerful jaws to gently break the eggs to help their babies into the world. They even carry the babies in their mouths to move them from place to place. However, there are animals mothers who are not as responsible.Cuckoos and cowbirds lay their eggs in other bird`s nests to hatch. The female seahorse lays eggs into a pouch on the male`s belly and leaves. The father has to carry, feed, and take care of the babies. The female Darwin`s frog in Chile lays eggs on wet ground and then leaves them to the male. The father swallows the eggs and carries them in his throat for three weeks. As you can imagine,it changes the father`s voice and makes it harder for him to eat ,but it`s the best way to make sure that the eggs are safe in a comfortable place until they grow into healthly little frogs.
